A vapor cloud forms when a substance that readily evaporates such as fuel, chemicals, or liquefied gases escapes from many sources and mixes with air. Why Are Vapor Clouds Dangerous? Vapor clouds can pose serious hazards, especially in health and industrial and emergency response contexts. Personal Protection • Vapor cloud is hazardous and flammable until identified. • Do NOT enter the cloud without proper authorization and PPE. • Use SCBA and appropriate chemical protective suit if required. • Eliminate all ignition sources (any signal source, vehicles, hot work near the cloud) Immediate Safety Immediate Safety Plant Building STOP WORK immediately. Go indoors immediately. Hold your breath briefly if needed and move away. Do not leave your building. Do not run into visible vapor. Close doors and windows. Move emergency assembly point UPWIND. Proceed to safe assembly area. Avoid low areas if vapor may be heavier than air. Follow your building marshal instruction.
