[Audio] GVK – SIYA ZAMA Construction Building Strength.
[Audio] Agenda We will be looking at the follow aspects Business Operating System (BOS) SHAREPOINT Importance of Quality Non–Conformance (NCR's) Drawing Control & Document Control Quality Check Sheets Site Daily Diaries.
[Audio] BOS SYSTEM 3 Questions 1. What is bos? 2. WHERE DO I FIND IT? 3. HOW DO I USE IT? What is the BOS System? BOS is the GVK Business Operating System also know as the GVK interweb. It is a live system where all the polices; procedures and all working documents are kept and updated regularly. Everyone who has a laptop/email address has access to the GVK interweb. SharePoint is where your project-specific information is stored..
[Audio] Sharepoint What is Sharepoint: Sharepoint is our GVK-Intranet Sharepoint was created as an online system where all employees would have access to the company's documents like Policies; HR forms; KPA/KPI's as well as HSE and Quality documents and forms for projects. This Folders is known as GVK Policies and Procedures. Sharepoint is also where there is controlled access on all project folders and personal folders..
[Audio] WHY IS QUALITY IMPORTANT? Why businesses prefer Quality over quantity Sustainability Productivity Sales & Profit Satisfied Customers Business Success.
[Audio] ACHIEVING QUALITY OBJECTIVES Discipline get the small things right and the big things automatically sort themselves out. Site Branding Site Appearance, entrance gate, hoarding, site establishment, access and egress Housekeeping Sequence of works Milestones on trades Built Quality Project planning and programme Subcontractor management Know your drawings, details and project requirements Minimize rework by improving build quality and introducing hold points Inter-departmental collaboration and teamwork Global responsibility and ownership.
[Audio] INEFFICIENCIES The Causes Early indicators not identified or overlooked Inefficiencies not being noted at all Root causes not identified or closed out Close Outs to NCRs Inadequate/quick fixes Band aid effect Working from the incorrect drawing Quality Check Sheets not filled in correctly and/or not checked/signed off Container ticking exercise Back dating sheets.
[Audio] NON-CONFORMANCE (NC's) What is the Purpose? The purpose of an NCR is to identify inefficiencies on site through identifying the root cause and to work out the cost implication caused. Then the to correct the inefficiency and close out the root cause. Identifying Root Causes/Close Outs: Root cause are to track/identify trends and to reduce inefficiencies which should be tied to a Site Instruction. Ask the 5 Why's The 5 why's is a simple investigation tool; it is also a rule of thumb approach but effective. Always start with the problem statement/failure event..
[Audio] RAISING NCR'S - continued How to raise an NCR: Step 1: Identify clearly what the problem was or is – this is called the 'Problem Statement' or 'Failure Event. Include the 'who, when, and what'. - Description Step 2: Raise the NCR against the system and/or process, and not a person and include the location and evidence needed. Step 3: Investigate the problem by asking 'why?' of the process, the method and the system - Root cause Step 4: Use familiar terminology – keep it simple for all to understand. Step 5: Finish the NCR with what changes have been made and how the process will continue to be monitored. – Corrective and/or Preventive Action Step 6: All personnel to sign off the NCR raised and submit it to the QS for costing, once costed then hand it to the Quality Controller..
[Audio] DRAWING CONTROL Step 1: Review & Approval (Client/Architect/Engineer) Step 2: Distribution Control (Document Transmittals/Stamps/Distribution by Site Agent) Step 3: Change Control (Revisions to be documented on Master Drawing Register with dates) Step 4: External Document Control (Updated Drawing Registers for the Professional Team) Step 5: Superseded Document Control (Superseded drawings to be documents on a register; filed in a Metrofile box – Label and stored in the Lockable Cupboard).
[Audio] SHAREPOINT FOLDER – GVK-SZ Policies & PROCEDURES Quality Check Sheet Workbook: What is the Purpose? The Operational Plan acts as the Test and Inspection Plan. It lays out the sequence and frequency that the QC checks will be carried out on site with the use of the QC sheets. There are "Hold Points" noted on the Operational Plan. Work may not proceed past a hold point until the works is inspected and signed off as satisfactory by the relevant responsible person..
[Audio] QUALITY CHECK SHEETS What and Why? The QC sheets are the Quality Control (QC) tool for the built works as they aid in actively monitoring and managing the quality of the works on site. Defective works must be noted on the QC sheets. Whilst work is ongoing, those defective items must be made good – Live Snag List. Specialist trades – make use of Specialist Form as it is not covered on our system but still is required and to be requested ie. Lift Installation/Medical Gases..
[Audio] SITE DAILY DIARIES Why are Site Diaries important? They are the backbone of our construction site reporting. They are used to document daily site progress and ensure any project hiccups or claims can easily be traced back to a site diary - along with supporting evidence and sign off. Site diaries are often the final proof in small and large court cases and claims. "Having a thorough site diary record can be the difference between paying out-of-pocket for things and events that weren't your fault - and keeping your record clean and your bank account full.".
[Audio] SITE DAILY DIARIES – CONTINUES What needs to be in your site diary? Site diaries will vary from project to project but shouldn't vary from day-to-day. Every site diary entry should have the following information recorded: Date Area worked in Weather Activities Work executed Safety, environmental and quality issues & incidents Labour Plant/ Equipment on site and Hired Plant.
